Erika wants to learn how to play the piano, so we'd thought of enrolling her in piano lessons. I was talking with her about this the other day, and she said something along the lines of, "I don't think I need a piano teacher. I want you and daddy to teach me how to play the piano."

Well, of course! Why didn't I think of that? Ok, the reason I didn't think of that is because it never occurred to me to do anything other than enroll my child in piano lessons if she wanted to learn to play the piano, just like it would never occur to me to do anything other than enroll my kid in gymnastics or swimming classes if she wanted to do those things. That's just what you do, right?

We ordered a beginning piano book for young children, and John is going to start teaching her when it arrives. I thought this particular series of books looked like a lot of fun. In the mean time, I'm teaching her how to play the melody to "Bruder Jakob." The whole thing is kind of making me want to pick up the piano again. Perhaps I am far enough from my own horrible childhood experience to enjoy it now. I have no idea where I would find the time, though!
